Battery life is a real concern for anyone working a long day away from a charger. Power mode is the setting in the Safepoint lone worker app that lets a worker decide how much battery the app uses to keep their location up to date.
You will find it under your account, then location settings. There are two choices. Normal is the default. It covers a standard shift comfortably and is where almost every Safepoint user will happily stay. Low power is the next step up, for the occasional job where a phone needs to stretch further than that.
Low power updates a worker’s location less frequently, which uses noticeably less battery but gives a less precise location.
When low power makes sense
Low power is for the days that run longer than planned. A callout that turns into an all-nighter, or a double shift covering for somebody at short notice.
It is also worth a thought when a phone starts the day at a disadvantage. A handset nobody remembered to charge overnight, an older battery that no longer holds what it once did, or cold weather, which drains a phone faster than most people expect.
The common thread is a day that will ask more of a battery than usual. Low power works best as a deliberate choice for a particular day, switched back to normal once that day is done.
Changing it, for yourself or for a team
Power mode can be switched as often as you like. A worker heading out on a long job can move to low power that morning and back to normal the next day, with nothing else to configure.
Administrators can also set it for a member from the Safepoint web portal as part of advanced member management, which is useful for rolling out a standard configuration across a team or adjusting it for somebody who is out on an unusually long shift.
Power mode is available now to all Safepoint users in the lone worker app.
