Norfolk Care Association’s statement on #Every30Minutes

Norfolk Care Association (NorCA) is the voice of social care providers across Norfolk and Waveney. We asked them for a statement on our #Every30Minutes campaign, and on what can be done to support health and social care workers who might suffer from violence at work.

Statement from Norfolk Care Association

The idea that anyone working to deliver care – in our hospitals, community health or social care  - is at risk of physical assault is a sobering thought. However, the world of adult social care is overwhelmingly one of positive relationships and person-centred care. Nevertheless, any assault is one too many and more tragic when the perpetrator is the person receiving care who will, themselves, be vulnerable and may be lashing out from confusion or anxiety. Often such complicated situations have safeguarding implications and it is important to use the existing reporting mechanisms if there are any such concerns.

Norfolk Care Association (NorCA), as the voice of adult social care providers across Norfolk, welcomes all measures – training, support, review – taken to minimise the number of these instances and to ensure that both the giver and receiver of care are kept safe.

About the #Every30Minutes Campaign

On average, a care worker is attacked every 30 minutes in the UK. Despite this incredibly high rate of violence, and the fact that health and social care is one of the largest sectors in the UK, this is almost never talked about.

As part of our new #Every30minutes campaign, we are speaking to care workers and care organisations across the UK, to understand the level of violence in the sector, and to talk about what can be done.
